Cantilever Racking

Cantilever Racking Installation UK โ€” Light, Medium and Heavy Duty

Cantilever racking is purpose-built for long, awkward or bulky loads that won't fit standard pallet racking โ€” timber, steel bar, tubing, plasterboard, carpets, plastic pipe and sheet material. Rackstor Installations Ltd designs and installs light, medium and heavy duty cantilever systems across the United Kingdom, indoors and outdoors, by SEIRS registered engineers.

What is cantilever racking?

Cantilever racking is an arm-and-column storage system with no front upright. The load sits on horizontal arms cantilevered from a vertical column, giving completely unobstructed access along the length of the bay. This makes it the ideal โ€” and often only โ€” solution for long loads, irregular materials and side-loader operations.

Who uses cantilever racking

  • Timber merchants โ€” softwood, hardwood, plywood, MDF, sheet materials.
  • Steel stockholders โ€” bar, tube, RSJ, sheet, plate.
  • Builders merchants โ€” plasterboard, insulation, decking, fencing.
  • Carpet and flooring warehouses โ€” long rolls stored horizontally.
  • Plastic and pipe distributors โ€” drainage, MDPE, ducting.
  • Furniture and worktop manufacturers โ€” long boards and sheets.

Light, medium and heavy duty options

  • Light duty โ€” bolted construction, ideal for trade counters and smaller stores, typically 200โ€“500kg per arm.
  • Medium duty โ€” welded or heavy bolted columns, 500โ€“1,000kg per arm โ€” the workhorse for builders and timber merchants.
  • Heavy duty โ€” structural I-beam columns and arms up to 3,000kg per arm, for steel stockholders and side-loader operations.

Indoor and outdoor (galvanised) installations

For external yards and exposed sites we install hot-dip galvanised cantilever racking with corrosion-protected fixings. Galvanised systems are engineered with wind-load and uplift calculations to remain stable in UK weather conditions.

Single vs double sided

Single sided cantilever sits against a perimeter wall and loads from one face. Double sided is freestanding with arms either side of a central column โ€” doubling storage capacity in the same footprint and ideal for islands served by side-loaders or reach trucks.

Installation process

  1. Free site survey with load schedule and access review.
  2. CAD layout, arm spacing and column sizing calculations.
  3. Fixed price quotation.
  4. SEIRS registered installation, floor fixing, levelling and torque check.
  5. Load notices, SEMA-compliant sign-off and completion certificate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What loads can cantilever racking carry?

Light duty arms typically carry 200โ€“500kg per arm, medium duty 500โ€“1,000kg, and heavy duty up to 3,000kg per arm. We size every system to your specific load schedule.

Can cantilever racking be installed outdoors?

Yes. Galvanised cantilever systems are designed for external storage of timber, steel, pipe and sheet materials.

Single or double sided?

Both. Single sided sits against a wall; double sided is freestanding and stores from both faces โ€” doubling capacity in the same footprint.

Is cantilever racking SEMA approved?

Yes. We install only SEMA-compliant systems and our installation engineers are SEIRS registered.

Do you cover the whole UK?

Yes โ€” directly employed teams cover the whole of the United Kingdom.
