Spur / Twin-Slot Shelving
Spur & Twin-Slot Shelving Installation for Healthcare & Education
Rackstor UK Ltd has installed spur-style (twin-slot) shelving systems as a contractor for hospitals and universities across the UK. This adjustable, wall-mounted shelving system is a widely specified solution for clinical storage, classrooms, libraries and administrative spaces where flexible, easily reconfigured shelving is required.
What is spur-style shelving?
Spur-style shelving โ often called twin-slot โ uses vertical wall-mounted uprights with paired rows of slots, into which adjustable brackets hook to carry the shelves. Because brackets can be relocated at any time, shelf heights and layouts can be changed without new fixings or damage to the wall. It is a durable, low-profile system widely specified across healthcare and education for its flexibility and long service life.
Our installation experience
Rackstor UK Ltd has carried out spur-style shelving installation as a contractor for healthcare and education clients, working alongside main contractors, architects and facilities teams to fit shelving to specification, on schedule, and with minimal disruption to clinical or teaching environments. We are experienced at working to drawings and schedules issued by third parties, and integrating our works with other trades on site.
Where spur-style shelving is used
- Clinical storage rooms and treatment room storage
- Consulting rooms and outpatient areas
- Pharmacy and dispensary storage
- University classrooms, teaching spaces and laboratories
- School and university libraries and archive rooms
- Administrative offices, staff rooms and back-of-house
Why use a specialist installer?
- Correct wall fixing for the substrate โ stud partition, blockwork, concrete, dry-lined masonry and dot-and-dab all require different anchors to reach the rated bracket capacity.
- Load-rated bracket positioning โ upright centres and bracket spacing must match the shelf material, span and intended load.
- Working in occupied environments โ clinical and teaching areas require careful scheduling, dust and noise control, protection of floors and finishes, and clear coordination with staff.
- Coordination with other trades โ around services, sockets, data, sanitary ware and joinery so the finished install sits cleanly within the room.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is spur-style shelving?
Spur-style shelving (also known as twin-slot shelving) is a wall-mounted system of slotted vertical uprights and adjustable brackets that carry shelves. Because the brackets hook into slots along the upright, shelf heights and configurations can be changed at any time without new fixings โ making it one of the most flexible shelving formats available.
Do you supply the shelving as well as installing it?
Currently we offer an installation service โ we fit shelving to your specification or your supplier's schedule. For supply enquiries please contact us to discuss and we'll advise on the best route.
Can spur shelving be installed in occupied buildings?
Yes. We routinely install in live clinical and teaching environments, working out-of-hours or in phased zones as required, with dust control, protection of finishes and coordination with ward, estates or facilities managers to minimise disruption.
